A small update which is a bit of a non-update

When Amy went for a scans three weeks ago she was told the hospital would be in touch after two weeks with a date for the operation. That would have been last Friday. Unfortunately, she hadn't heard anything by Monday so chased and found out that the Consultant's secretary has left and nobody seemed to know what was happening. Annoying! So, after much hassle, her dad has finally got hold of someone who may be able to give some information, or at least find out what's going on. Progress.

Meanwhile, despite the charity's and my best efforts, the charity is still not on the Charities list at Ultra Challenge, also annoying! Again, lots of chasing. Hopefully before the end of today...I won't hold my breath!

The first training walk :)

  Well. I have to admit I have surprised myself today.  Today I decided to start training. After all, with only 4 months to go I really couldn't leave it any later! Things are finally coming together. The team is growing, the fundraising page is up, Amy has her operation date so I guess the only thing left to do is walk 100km! I decided I'd start with 12 miles. It seemed reasonable. It's been a while since I walked that kind of distance and I knew I could do it, the question was, what kind of pace I could achieve. I hoped for 4 mph but since I haven't walked that fast for a long while, I didn't hold out much hope.  Following the straight and narrow! I got off to a good start and within the first couple of miles I was over 4mph and things were looking good. An interesting look! The weather was ideal. A visit

Yesterday I went to visit Amy. It will be possibly the last time I get to see her before the operation and I felt compelled. I'm a mum, what can I do!? Earlier that day, Amy had visited the hospital to sign the consent forms and ask lots of questions. The answers to a lot of the questions were reassuring. She told us that they are all very calm at the hospital and she felt they really had no worries about her operation at all. (I won't quote the bit on the consent form that states all the things that can go wrong, suffice to say, they won't in all probability!). So, the operation is set for Wednesday, and she will more than likely be 'done' in the morning. Tuesday she has a couple of appointments, one with a speech therapist and another one that I've completely forgotten for the moment. Trying to do the right thing!

It's not easy trying to get things off the ground.  To begin with, I wrote to the charity, Cavernoma Alliance UK who have been incredibly supportive about the walk, and asked them if they wouldn't mind contacting the Ultra Challenge people to be a supported charity so that a. it would be better for them, getting more money for anyone who signs up for the walk and b. cheaper for those signing up!   I thought it would be easy...how wrong I was. The charity emailed the company, as did I, before Christmas. Probably not the best time, I admit, so during the second week of January, I emailed again, as did the charity. No reply. I sent them a tweet. Nothing. It's as if nobody wants us to do the walk or give them any money.  Anyway, to cut a long story short, we finally got hold of them last week and the charity have agreed to register.
