A visit
Yesterday I went to visit Amy. It will be possibly the last time I get to see her before the operation and I felt compelled. I'm a mum, what can I do!?
Earlier that day, Amy had visited the hospital to sign the consent forms and ask lots of questions. The answers to a lot of the questions were reassuring. She told us that they are all very calm at the hospital and she felt they really had no worries about her operation at all. (I won't quote the bit on the consent form that states all the things that can go wrong, suffice to say, they won't in all probability!).
So, the operation is set for Wednesday, and she will more than likely be 'done' in the morning. Tuesday she has a couple of appointments, one with a speech therapist and another one that I've completely forgotten for the moment. The operation itself is a long old procedure, start to finish probably taking about 5 hours. Bearing in mind that she has to be awake for the whole thing and constantly talking, it sounds thoroughly exhausting, but I know Amy and she will take it in her stride, I'm sure. Her partner, parents and siblings will however be wearing out carpets and drinking lashings of coffee.
Once done though, that should be that, all being well. And Amy could be back home within two days, and able to do things without too much trouble. As the nurse said to her, she won't yet be able to run a marathon, but she can go for walks, and light jogs soon afterwards.
If I know Amy, she'll be itching to get back to being normal, and will do it spectacularly.
Meanwhile, last night we went for a lovely meal, Amy, her partner Issy and me. Delish in fact. If you want a recommendation I'd say head to Mio Yatai https://mioyatai.co.uk/ . Excellent ramen. It's basic, which is definitely part of the charm, and the owner (I presume) was beyond a delight. Really lovely grub for a very reasonable price :).
And off Amy went to work this morning, as if nothing is happening. It amazes me how she copes, I am in awe.
I came home in beautiful sunshine to my new walking trainers which are in the right size box but the wrong size trainers. Hugely disappointing. However, my new socks arrived too, and that's very exciting. They have toes!! Bonkers! Apparently they reduce the risk of blisters. I'll let you know after my walk on Saturday.
It was lovely seeing Amy, it was a really chilled evening, and for a while, it helped me forget the reason all this is happening. She's good at that. What a human she is, she makes me very proud.
Gimme the deets about your walking trainers if you think they're worth recommending … once you've got a pair that fit. 😁 Same with the socks. 🙂
ReplyDeleteSo my walking shoes aren't unisex and I suspect you have narrow feet so I'm not sure it'd help you but they're Berghaus! To get the best shoes for you, you need to go to a sports shop and get properly assessed really, they watch you walk and assess your gait. (though I haven't done that this time, I got lucky!). As for the socks, they're socks with toes, Hilly's do them, they're the cheaper ones, I wore them on Saturday and they worked fine so definitely worth the purchase. I'll be trying the others next time, a liner sock (with toes) and an over sock. They're Injini socks and more expensive. Will let you know!
ReplyDeleteThank you! 🙂 I'll try to get some shoes and socks sorted in time for my second walk. 😀 Gotta get 'em run in. 😉 I was just thinking on my walk yesterday: I learned to drive with you; now I'm learning to walk with you. 😁
DeleteHaha! So true!
