A proper update!

Well, who knew that I'd be able to update you with a double whammy this evening. Ultra Challenge finally got their act together and I am now registered for the walk from London to Brighton walk on 27th and 28th May.

Obviously now I will set up the fundraising page and will be putting it out there but I'll let the weekend happen first, it's been a stressful day. Not only trying desperately to get this sorted with Ultra Challenge, but also because the second bit of news I have is that Amy now has a date for her operation. In fact, she had two dates in the end. It reminds me of that old clichΓ©, 'just like London buses...'.  So, now that we managed to get hold of someone in the know at the hospital, Amy was given a date of 15 February, just twelve days away.  Just as she had agreed the date, she received another email offering her a date of 8 February, which if my maths is correct is only 5 days away. After a little consideration, Amy decided to take the first date, not least because it coincides with half term so she will, theoretically, be missing for fewer days. However, her thinking was also that it would be unfair on the school to suddenly disappear without warning, and it gives everyone more planning time.

So tomorrow morning I am heading out on my first training walk.  10+ miles from the village to our nearest town in Yorkshire, via fields and footpaths. I've never done it and it could get messy and muddy, but I'm sure it'll certainly be fun, and a good start. I did think I'd try and go there and back but I don't think I'm quite ready for over 21 miles just yet!

But, looking at the training suggestions, within the next couple of weeks I should be up to 30km in one go, which equates to about 18 miles. I'll give that a go soon but I won't be able to train during the operation week as I'll be down in London, being a mum. I might give it a go at the end of next week and be ahead of schedule!  On the other hand...I might not!  Time will tell :).

If you'd like to join us on our walk, drop me a message and I'll give you team sign up details.

Have a wonderful weekend all.

  1. Best wishes to Amy on the 15th! 😊 (You'll probably need some too. πŸ˜‰) With the current state of the NHS, I wasn't expecting it to be quite so soon, so well done on fighting her corner so effectively. πŸ‘

  2. to be honest Gordy, this hospital, though NHS, seems very different and a world away from what we assume the NHS to be :)

    1. That's good. πŸ™‚ Judging by the experience of my mum and a friend of mine at Southmead Hospital in Bristol, that place may be similar as well. It's nice to see there are some exceptions to the general trend! 😊
